Why is it…

Why is it that starting around this time of year I always want to watch all my comfort movies? Fall, or as many say, autumn is my favorite time of year. It is for many people. Not only do the annoying bugs start to die or go back to the land of fire and brimstone where they belong, the weather cools. Cool weather brings about crisp mornings. Crisp mornings bring about steaming mugs of coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. Sweaters and jackets are pulled from the depths of closets and appetite inducing aromas fill the air.

Fall has always filled me with a sense of romance, of hope, of renewed energy. I feel most alive it seems. No, this is not the time of year that I was born, either. I don’t know why. It could be that I spent many fall days and nights at the football fields. Could be that fall seems to make people’s eyes sparkle. I’ve noticed cooler weather does that. Maybe it’s because school supplies are stocked and I’m a sucker for a nice pen, pencil, notebook. Ok, I love school supplies of all kinds. But seriously, you cannot beat a great pen.

You cannot beat a great comfort movie, either. I really enjoy the classic “You’ve Got Mail”. It resonates with me. I also watch “Pride & Prejudice” on repeat. Only the 1995 version with Colin Firth. I watch other versions but only that one on repeat. I mean, Mr. Firth was perfection in that role. When I first read the book YEARS ago, he is what I imagined while reading. That rarely happens. And am I the only one that enjoys the version in your head better than who they cast? Sometimes they get it close, though. I was once told that not everyone has a picture in their head of what they are reading. I cannot imagine that. I could see how reading would not be enjoyable to those who do not “see” what they are reading.

Reading (for fun) is one of my greatest joys. Reading because I have to (for class) is my least favorite pastime. I think that is because I do not get to choose the subject. I do not have a favorite subject to read. I really find that I like a bit of everything. Many of my favorite books have been those that were suggested to me that I would have never read otherwise.

Well that is an insight to my weird little brain. It jumps from subject to subject. I’m still not used to it, and I’ve had years of experience with it. Until next time….
